We were honoured to be part of the Commemorative Centenary & Sunset Ceremony, even playing the piece “Sunset” with sea scout and air cadet buglers. There were standards paraded and various tents exhibiting military information with quite a lot of people in uniform old and modern for the occasion. As well as our regular repertoire of marches and swing tunes we played a sing-along 1914 medley (Tipperary, Hello Who’s Your Lady Friend and Take Me Back to Blighty). There were also hymns and specially chosen music for each type of military (Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines did feature!)
There was a brilliant turnout of audience, thanks no doubt to the beautiful Summer weather – in fact some of the band enjoyed ice-cream during the brief interval.
